Welcome to St. Peter Downtown! As a congregation of The Lutheran Church—Missouri Synod (LCMS), our belief and life are rooted entirely in the historic Christian faith, expressed through the Lutheran Reformation. We confess that salvation is a free gift from God through His Son, Jesus Christ, as revealed to us in the Holy Scriptures.
Our confession of faith is summarized by three core biblical truths:
1. Scripture Alone (Sola Scriptura)
We believe that the Bible is the inspired, inerrant, and infallible Word of God. It is the sole rule and final authority for all matters of faith, doctrine, and daily Christian living. Through Scripture, God speaks to us, reveals His loving heart, and shows us the way to eternal life. Every worship service, lesson, and ministry at St. Peter is grounded firmly in the promises of God’s Word.
2. Faith Alone (Sola Fide)
We believe that no human effort, good work, or religious devotion can earn us a right relationship with God or earn our way into heaven. Salvation is received solely as a gift through faith in Jesus Christ. Created in us by the Holy Spirit through the Good News of the Gospel and the Sacraments, faith trusts entirely in God's mercy and forgiving love.
3. Christ Alone (Solus Christus)
We believe that Jesus Christ—true God and true man—is our only Lord and Savior. Through His sinless life, His sacrificial death on the cross, and His glorious resurrection from the dead, Jesus conquered sin, death, and the power of the devil for all humanity. Salvation is found in no one else; He alone is the mediator between God and man, bringing us hope, peace, and everlasting life.
As a member congregation of the LCMS, we confess the historic Apostles’, Nicene, and Athanasian Creeds, alongside the Lutheran Confessions contained in the Book of Concord. Whether you are seeking answers, looking to deepen your faith, or searching for a church home, we invite you to join us in confessing and celebrating the rich, unconditional grace of Jesus Christ!
