  • grace alone

The people of Saint Peter Downtown Houston are a people saved by the free gift of God's grace given to us by Jesus' death and resurrection alone. In other words, it is not something that we do or have done,  not done or have not done, it is His gift given to us.  We can not earn it, nor do we even deserve it by the good things we do. or sinful things we do not.  We may be ordinary, even broken, people in the eyes of the world,
but in spite of our brokenness, He loves and knows who we really are .  Whether  or not a person loves  and serves Him, He still  loves them and longs to be in relationship with them.

God so loved the entire world that He offered the life of His Son, Jesus,
to suffer and die as punishment for the sins of  all people so they could be saved from bearing the eternal consequences of their sin.

This is such Good News that Jesus, in His last words to His disciples commanded us to tell the world so they might live with Him forever with us. Matthew 28:18-20

  • Faith alone

The people of Saint Peter are a people of faith. We are saved by our trust that Jesus and His work on the cross  is our only hope of life with Him in heaven forever..

We believe that God is the ultimate answer to all the questions and struggles of life, and we seek Him out in them.  We strive, and sometimes fail, to live lives that honor His sacrifice for us, and demonstrate His love for all people.

We regularly worship Him in His house,  speak and hear Him speak to  our hearts though daily prayer, have our faith strengthened  through   the  preaching and teaching of His inspired Holy Word, as well as the Sacraments, serve and love our neighbor, and share the Good News of His Gospel with all people.

    Romans 1:17

    Galatians 3:11

  • word alone

We hold firm to our faith that God's Word, the Bible, reflects His true will and nature to mankind.  It was recorded by men who He chose and used for His purposes.  While the personalities and writing styles remained, the truth that they share is not their own.  They were inspired and directed by God and reflect His thoughts and truth. What may seem conflicts or errors are resolvable through a better understanding of the culture of the audience, the intended purpose for writing, as well as ongoing Biblical and archaeological research.  We understand God as clearly revealed in His entire  Word.  We neither add to it with tradition or logic, nor do subtract from it according to contemporary culture. Revelation 22:18-19
